Each day I come back to the cross.

I see what love can do.

Each time I go back to genesis and read all the way through.

I always learn something new.

You even fill me with new songs to sing.

My God my King my everything.

How wonderful and true.

That in You everything is new!

Basic Cookie Dough

I like to make Christmas cookies to give away. So the first of December I start baking and keep on until a day or two before Christmas. I have tried zillions of recipes in my time. I have one cookies dough that I really like. It is the basic sugar cookie dough found in any Betty Crocker cookbook. I like it because I can change it into a zillion different cookies. If  I through in chocolate chips it is a chocolate chip cookie recipe. If  I  toss in mash banana, nuts, and spice it becomes a banana cookie. If  I add anything moist I have to add a little flour to get right consistency like when I added the bananas. I can add mint, or chocolate, or other flavors to the basic dough or I can add candied fruit, or coconut. The basic dough can be made a little stiffer and rolled out, and it can be frosted. It makes an excellent lemon cookie just add lemon flavor, candied ginger and lemon zest. Sometimes I get too wild and things don't always come out right. I keep going back to the basic dough and recipes seem to grow from there. This is true of my Christian walk too. The Lord keeps leading me back to the basics; when ever teachings get to wild or confusing. Or when I just get confused or unsure of things. This is good because each time I go back to the basics the firm foundation gets reinforced. Also going back to the basics always seems to stimulate new growth. No matter how many times the Lord leads me back to the basics, I never find it dull or boring. I can never really say to Him, "Come on Lord I know all of this stuff." Because He always sheds new light on it or teaches me new ways to apply it or both. Today I stopped my old daily devotion routine and looked to Him for a new one because I felt dull and in need of refreshing. And sure enough He lead me back to the basics this morning. And sure enough there was new light, new revelations to behold!  New things to apply! It was my devotions today that made me think about my basic cookie dough recipe. I  cant wait to go play with my recipe it will be so much fun! I cant wait to see what I will learn or how I will grow from going back to the basics! Life with God is such a blast!

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16, And that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in righteousness and true holiness. Ephesians 4:23-24, And have put on the new man who is renewed in the knowledge according to the image of Him who created him. Colossians 3:10
