Hungry? Thirst? For more of God? The only way to satisfy that is to spend real quality time with Him. In a bible study, devotional rut that feels empty? Drop it all and spend real quality time with God. Here's a few ideas. Make up songs to sing to God. talk to Him out loud about every thing. live like He is right there with you. After all He is you know.
Come To Me
After being with You so long, do I no longer hear or see You as I once did?
I use to feel Your presence strong, now I feel from me Your face is hid.
So I cry and plead franticly, "Lord where are You?"
"Lord what should I do?"
Faith tell me You are still here, but I need more of You.
"O what should I do?"
You said, "Stop trying to feed yourself."
"Put other peoples words back on the shelf."
"Come live in Me."
"Stop trying to be as you think you should be."
"Open up your heart and surrender all to me.
"And again you will hear and see that my face is not hid from thee."
"Remember when you hunger and thirst,"
"When you think things are at their worst."
"Come to Me I will dry Your eye."
"Come to Me I satisfy."
Can't Get Enough
I remember as a child a commercial that went like this: "Can't get enough of those super sugar crisp. They keep me going strong." (It's a cereal commercial) Yesterday that was sort of how I felt about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I felt like I couldn't get enough of them I felt weak. So I started praying and talking to God about it. I was no longer satisfied with reading my daily devotional, and reading my bible through in a year program. All my other bible studies seemed lacking too. Even my prayer time felt like it had no oomph. So I talked and prayed about it in a desperate frantic way. Then God said calm down, here I am, listen to Me. So I listened and He said, "what's the problem?" I said," Lord I'm so hungry and thirsty for You I feel like I am going to die unless I get more." "Sounds like your seeking me doesn't it?", He said. "Well yes more of You", "But I don't know how to go about it." I said. "When do you usually feel my presence the most?", He asked. "During times of praise and worship." I said. "Then start there.", He said. So I did. At first I couldn't come up with a song:; so I was about to put on a tape and sing along. "No don't sing other peoples words. I want yours from Your heart.", He said. So I started making up songs. Before long I didn't feel desperate, frantic, or hungry, or thirsty. I felt peaceful, creative, and productive. I got a lot done as I sang. So I asked God, "What about my reading the bible through in a year and all my other bible studies and stuff? Why do they feel so empty?" "Because they have become just that stuff. They are stuff you do in faithfulness and obedience to Me, which is good that you are faithful and obedient . But your heart and you are not in it.", He said. "What? I love You!", I shot back. " I know You love Me! Calm down! You are no longer receiving because it has become second nature to you like breathing.", "You don't think about breathing you just do it.", He said. "I am hungry and thirsty for more of you too.", He continued. "What should I do?", I asked. Then He said, "For now I want you all through out the day to think about Me.", "Think about scriptures, talk to Me, pick up My word and read it as you are led.", "Sing to Me, and praise Me, in your own words." " Take Me every where with you, invite Me into every part of your life.", " Live as if you are always in my presence.", "After all you are you know." "Do as I have just told you and you will still hunger and thirst but not like you do now." "Because if you do all I just told you to do, your hunger and thirst will always be satisfied by Me and not by you trying to feed your self." So folks this is where I am at today.
And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. John 6:32, Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. John 4:34, On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. "He who believes in Me, as the scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." John 7:37
