A Prayer For Wisdom And Understanding

Lord give me wisdom and understanding for this day.

That I may choose Your will and Your way.

Please give me wisdom so I will know what to say.

Please give me wisdom so I will know what to pray.

Lord give me understanding for everyone I see.

Lord give me understanding that I may treat them and love them like thee.

Help me to grow in wisdom that I may be more like You.

Help me grow in understanding that I may do all you would have me do.

 Understanding

Often when children are having trouble getting along with each other in Sunday school parents get flustered. I usually tell them when little so and so gets understanding they will stop doing this wrong thing and do the right thing. When a friend had a problem with her spouse, I told her that maybe if she could help him gain some understanding about what was bothering her things may get better. So many times I have seen understanding smooth out some of  life's bumpy roads. Understanding has healed many a relationship personal, professional, and spiritual. without understanding I can go wildly on my way frustrating myself, falling into sin, hurting others, and many more such things. Aaah but when I get understanding I do those things a lot less and in some areas I do get victory. Understanding brings wisdom and sometimes helps me to be more patient. Understanding means I have to get my eyes off of me and try to see things from God's view and the view of others. I seem to gain understanding quicker if  I put myself in the other person's shoes. I thank God that when I put myself in someone else's shoes that, He gives me thoughts of  love, kindness and mercy toward them. That seems to make understanding come even quicker. In school with my algebra math class I was clueless and had a hard time with that one! I really had to stretch to gain understanding of  algebra and even now some of it still is vague but I did pass that class. This holds true in everyday life and spiritual life too, that to gain understanding sometimes I really have to stretch and I don't always fully get it (some is better than none). Understanding is something I have to pursue the light doesn't just suddenly come on. When I  seek understanding I ask God to help me, I ask people questions, I read, experiment, and explore I really chase after it. Understanding and wisdom are truly priceless gifts from God that seem to work miracles in my life. 

Yes if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding Proverbs 2:3-6, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path. Proverbs 3:5-6, Jesus opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the scriptures. Luke 24:45, Consider what I say and may the Lord give you understanding in all things. 2Timothy 2:7, If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5
