Real friends are friends for ever. And they don't give up the ship.
A Prayer From The Heart
Lord keep Your hand upon me.
Be my Captain for all eternity.
I know I can trust You with all.
Help me to yield to each command You call.
Lord keep me close to You.
Help me to be a friend tried and true.
I know I can trust all into Your care.
Help me to be a friend to others and shine Your light every where. Amen
Don't Give Up The Ship
Yesterday some sailors in a movie were singing, "Friends are friends for ever." something, something "Don't give up the ship." I think it is some sort of Navy song. I really like the tune, but the two phrases I mentioned seemed to stick with me. In my walk with Jesus I have made lots of acquaintances and only a few real friends. This is because it is easy to meet people, but friendship takes time to grow. Real friends are those who don't give up on you when there are misunderstandings. They are there no matter what. This can only come from really knowing someone and that takes time, as does earning trust. Spiritually I see myself as a ship and I hope no one gives up on me. But even more so I am happy to know the captain (Jesus) wont give up on me. I am glad He is always there to keep me on a steady course toward home. But to do this I must totally yield and submit to His wisdom, authority, and power. Like a ship or a sailor I must respond to His commands. Only He can keep me from being tossed to and fro or from being dashed upon the rocks. But only if I obey Him. Jesus is my friend for ever and I can trust Him to not give up the ship. I want to be like Him. I want to be a friend who doesn't give up on others no matter what they say or do. To do that I must be filled with Him and His love for others that is unconditional. This too will take time and will have to be grown in me. I know I can trust Him with this also. I know it will happen as I learn and grow in Him.
A friend loves at all times Proverbs 17:17, A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6, Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the ends of the age. Matthew 28:20
