Mercy is not just reserved for big stuff in life. It needs to be show in little every day situations too.
Mercy
When I do wrong and look to You,
I find mercy.
When I am suffering and don't know what to do,
I come to You and,
I find mercy.
You have shown mercy and kindness to me.
Now help me to pass it on generously.
Give me a heart full of love and compassion.
Hear I am make me according to thy fashion.
That when mercy and kindness are found in me.
It will be You they see.
That they may know I give them the gift You've given me.
Mercy.
That they may know Lord that it is true,
That everything come from You.
Even mercy.
I pray all will see.
Have Mercy
There for a while the words "have mercy" were heard a lot on a television show called full house. The meaning behind the words "have mercy" if it was said to a girl, was "You are a beautiful girl and I have no power to resist you." Or if it was said about an object like a car it meant, "wow this object is beautiful or cool and I can't resist desiring it." But that is what slang sometimes does to words, twist it's meaning. "Have mercy", really means to be kind, forgiving, patient, understanding, and Christ like towards others who have done you wrong or done something wrong in general. I wonder if I have mercy as often as I should or could? Like when the Sunday School children spill there drink. Do I speak harsh to them? Or, do I say accidents will happen, and help them clean it up and get them another? What about when my neighbor uses my garden house with out asking, and when I am bout to use it? Can I swallow my pride, anger, whatever, and smile and say," let me know when your done I think my plants could use a little too?" God is teaching me that mercy needs to be shown not only over big things, but little things as well. Being merciful when the need for it is large, and obvious, is easier to see and do than when the situation is small. Yet if I don't learn to have mercy over the small stuff; how can I expect it to be easy to have it over the big stuff. Small situations are great for practicing how to handle large situations. Having mercy also means showing kindness, love, and understanding towards others who are suffering. Like when I see someone out side working in the hot sun and offer them a cool drink. Or when I shelter a child from bullies. God is showing me that all day long there are people in need of mercy. Some in my very own home, church, community, and some where ever I go. How can I recognize those in need of mercy? How can I show them mercy? I recognize them by having a Christ like heart and being filled daily with the Holy Spirit. I can show them mercy by giving them what God gives me love, patience, kindness, understanding, and providing what they need. To the lost that provision is a sip of Jesus, to the thirsty on a sweltering hot day it's water, to the starving it's food. Be it those things or kindness, or forgiveness, or patience. All the mercy I have to give In what ever form; has been given to me by God. I still have a lot to learn about mercy as you can see. But thanks be to God this is a good start.
The earth, O Lord , is full of Your mercy; teach me Your statutes. Psalm 119:64, He has taught you O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8, Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Matthew 5:7
