To fight well number one let God be your strength and remember the battle belongs to Him. Number two Listen to the Holy Spirit and do all He tells you to.

A Cry For Help

Lord here I am once again battling sin.

Every day sin and my old self tries to creep in.

Come and strengthen me.

Come and hide me in thee.

Come and give me wisdom and might.

Come teach me how to fight the good fight.

In You I can keep the darkness at bay.

In You I can over come or make a get away.

It's my hearts desire not to go astray.

Oh Holy Spirit come and help me each day I pray.

Fighting Tactics

When I lived on the streets I didn't know much about fighting. So when ever I got into a fight I did what ever came natural in order to survive. I tried hitting, kicking, punching, shouting, screaming, throwing the person down so I could get on top and choking. I was never the type to carry weapons. I was always afraid my attacker would get it away from me and use it on me. What's all this got to do with my Christian walk you ask? Well I have to fight daily the sin and short comings in my life. So how do you hit or punch sin or short comings? You hit it with prayer, a repentive spirit, and the word of  God. You can also kick sin and short comings where it hurts by nipping it in the bud as soon as you realize it is upon you. You can throw sin and short comings down and choke them. You do this by immediately doing what is right when you find yourself doing wrong. Shouting and screaming helps too. In a physical fight it throws the other person off guard and distracts them. My way of spiritually screaming and shouting at sin and shortcomings is to sing hymns, recite memory verses, sing psalms, and sometimes to just yell no! Or shout the name of Jesus. Also in my street days I tried to avoid fights as much as possible because I was so poor at it. So I would try to talk my way out of it, I would run, hide, and sometimes if  I could I would just walk away, or not go where the other person was. In spiritual life these tactics work too. To avoid sin and short comings start your day with God, His word, and prayer. Get and stay focused on Him. You still may sin or fall short but you get things set to right quicker if  you do as I just said. My way of talking my way out of sin and short comings is by constantly talking to other Christians about God and about my things I need help with. Also by talking to myself and God out loud about what's going on through out the day. My way of running, walking, away or staying away, from sin and short comings is by trying to stay away from evil words, thought, and deeds. And by staying away from things that promote them. Like bad books, bad television, bad places, and bad company. My way of hiding from sin and short comings is keeping my mind and heart focused on Jesus, meditating on God's word, spending special time with God, and praying a lot. I never have had the strength to be a good physical fighter. But with God as my strength I am becoming a pretty good spiritual fighter.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Psalm 46:1, For the battle is the Lord's. 1 Samuel 17:47, With out Me you can do nothing.
