Lord help me to grow up to be a good, humble, faithful, cheerful, and obedient servant; that helps others know You. Amen

A Prayer About Work And Play

When I work or play.

Lord I pray.

That You will shine through in all I do or say.

When I work or play.

Lord I pray.

That I will hear You and obey.

When I work or play.

Lord I pray.

That Your will be done through me this day.

When I work or play.

Lord I pray.

That love, joy, and mercy flows form me showing others Your way.

Work?

There have been some jobs in my life that seemed more like fun than work. To get a job like that you have to pick something you love to do. Sure you still get tired and have bad days and sometimes it seems like a chore. But; somewhere in the back of your mind or in your heart is the thought it's not that bad because this is what I like to do. For me a job like that would be cooking in a country restaurant, or working in a bakery. What about working for the kingdom of God? It doesn't seem like work to me to talk about God, Jesus, and The Holy Spirit and what they have done for me. It doesn't seem like work when I see a need and fill it or help out somewhere. Everything I do for God I usually enjoy so it doesn't seem like work. I said usually because alas I am human and sometimes I have bad days, I get tired, and sometimes things can become a chore. I have learned to be careful not to put myself in a position to get burned out. One way I do this is by letting people know when I need a break or some help. (Pride and guilt use to keep me from doing that.) I am also learning the difference between giving God an honorable sacrifice and a dishonorable sacrifice. An honorable one is when you do something you don't want to do or feel like doing with a good attitude. By good attitude I mean sincere from the heart I would rather not do this; but I will because I love God and people and I will do it cheerfully. Also a good attitude is humble and points to God, honors others and seeks their good. A dishonorable one is when you have a bad attitude. By bad I mean frowning, complaining, seeking pity, being grumpy, or saying, " Look at me I am super Christian." Also a bad attitude is self centered, doesn't glorify God, and doesn't think of others. I am learning that I can choose to have the things I do for the kingdom of God be a chore or I can choose to enjoy it. Many a time God has helped me change my attitude. By speaking to my heart but, I had to ask His help and listen to Him first. Also my attitude has been changed by singing hymns. Attitude is important no matter what kind of work I do because it affects others. It can even be a way of  letting the light of God shine or it can hide that light.

But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Hebrews 13:16, Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58, So let each of us give as he proposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7, I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2
