Being more specific in prayer is going to take time and practice but, I see the benefits of it, and it is worth it. Thanks Lord for this lesson today. Amen
A Prayer Song About Prayer
Lord as I pray today.
Guide me in how and what to say.
Help me to see the needs this prayer may fulfill.
Help me to pray according to Your will.
Give me understanding, wisdom, and revelation from above.
Guide my prayers Father of light, life, and love. Amen
Be Specific
Could you be more specific is something you hear a lot in the old court room dramas on television. Sometimes my doctor will ask me to do that when I describe an ailment. I think I finally hear God saying that every time I pray. Sometimes being asked to be more specific causes me to draw a mental blank. So then I need to ask why am I praying for this? Because some one told me to or asked me to? Because I believe this is what God has put on my heart? Is it to look good before God and/ or men? Is it selfish? Once I determine if my motives are right then I can start focusing on being more specific in my prayers. The bible gives lots of good ideas for specific prayers like praying for some one to receive Jesus, comfort, understanding and lots more! Even those prayers can be made more specific by asking that a persons heart be prepared to receive Jesus, that people are sent to plant seeds in that persons heart, and that there is some one to water the seeds planted. Or that God would give you a word of comfort for so and so, or that they would remember a scripture at this time that would bring peace to them. Or that so and so would gain understanding so they could stop doing the wrong thing and pick the right thing. Or that so and so would gain understanding so they could see the truth and be set free from a problem. The more specific I become in prayer the more I will be able to identify an answer to prayer when it comes. It's almost like if I pray vaguely I will see vaguely. God already knows what I am going to pray about. He already knows the specifics but, He wants me to be specific because it helps me focus, and helps me hear Him better as He leads me deeper in prayer. Being specific helps me to not get in a prayer rut or be repetitious. There are many benefits to being specific in prayer; I haven't realized yet because He is just now in the process of teaching me about being specific. Plus this being new to me will take time and practice on my part.
And I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks fins, and to him who knocks it will be opened. If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he give him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who asks Him! Luke 11:9-13 I like this scripture it has many good lessons but for today it reminds me be specific if you want the Holy Spirit ask for the Holy spirit don't be vague because you know God knows what you really want. I should be specific in my prayers too. God is a good Father giving to us according to what is best for us. He always hears us and answers us.
